I have seen a number of recent articles about Voter ID acts in various states with Arizona being foremost in the News right now. First let me say that I personally see nothing wrong with showing my ID to vote. I have done it all my life. Never have I gone to vote and was not asked for my ID which they used to match me up to the voter registration lists. To me it makes common sense to prove that I am the person using MY registered voter name to cast a vote.
What I am having a problem with is the lack of Proof that is thrown about to support this issue. The Supporters of these Bills keep throwing out vague numbers and comments like "Hundreds of Illegal Aliens Voted in the XXXX Elections", then cite a BLOG to support their claim.
Really a BLOG?, What the heck if there really are that many illegal voters there must have been some arrests some where in this country. So I am asking for all of you who are so Adamant in supporting these Bills on the Grounds that Illegal Aliens are Voting to Please Cite Sources from Local Police Department, State Attorneys, US Attorneys, or the Department of Justice.
If all you really have is a BLOG then you have nothing.
Another issue brought up by these same supporters of the Voter ID bills is that Students from other states are coming to their state and voting after they have been in state for a year. Hello, if you or I move to another state and live there a Year we are now official residents of that new state, unless we continue to file tax returns in the original state. Oh but wait you say, what if they don't file taxes and are claimed as a Dependant by their parents. Then that should make them a resident of the state their parent lives in, unless there is legal justification to claim otherwise.
Should be easy enough to check new registrations against the Tax Department records, and if you have not lived in a new state long enough to file taxes then you should be voting absentee in your old state, student or adult.
As to Students ID not being accepted as ID for voting, I can understand this because they don't identify who is or is not a resident of the state. Make it a Requirement that Student ID Clearly state Resident on it, when they meet residency requirements. Not only will this help the Voting issue but also to help in making sure that out of state students don't collect the benefits afforded to Resident Students.
The Reason I support Voter ID is simple. Do a search on your Name, I did on mine and found 2 others with the same first and last name, Both of them live in States that I have lived in in the past.
The CoH will be strictly enforced here, I hate deleting people but if you toss any Insults you will be reported and deleted.
